I been doing so much searching that my eyes are watering searching for a second detector.
What I'm looking for is a detector I can use in water shallow and deeper pools and one that will also find small gold on land.
I'm using a ML 3500 since they came out and it's been good, but it has it's limits.
I would like to hear from those of you that use them.TNX.

Hi Lead Pot, may I suggest a Garrett Infinium LS to supplement your 3500? I just purchased one (and the optional 8" mono coil) from Steve at AK Mining based on his positive comments and reviews on his site. Like you, I also wanted something I was more comfortable using around water and in the wet/snowy season.

Check out his Infinium page and scroll down for his articles: Steve's Garrett Infinium articles page.

Mine has not arrived yet so I can't offer you any comments on it but Steve's articles are good and there is also an Infinium forum: Infinium forums.

Good luck with whatever you decide to purchase.

Gosh Jennifer.... I also bought an Infinium from Steve. It may have been one of the
first he sold. Originally they were limited to only using the DD coils... And the only coil
that was available was 10x14 DD "steering wheel."

Garrett later modified both the pre-production "test" and the early production DD-only
machines to accept the monocoils... The modification was then, and still is, no charge.

The Garrett Infinium is still the only PI-type detector with ground balancing capabilities.
I have used it at San Clemente south of the pier. Two summers ago I bravely (read
stupidly) took it out into the surf and was caught in angry waves. Later I was told
to watch out for the rip-tides near the pier... Dumb ol' me. I was knocked down. The
Infinium was cuffmounted and I lost it in the surf... but I hung on to the headset and
was able to retrieve the Infinium... It headset cable still works...

One thing I will say... the Infinium is built like a Sherman tank... and also just as
heavy. But I have done well with mine in the hot-rock beaches in southern
California.

My Best wishes in using the Infinium... and Thanks for your friendship...
Jim

Thank you Jennifer the Infinium Land & Sea Metal Detector is one of the choices I been considering and the ML Excalibur II because of the wide range of frequency's but your stuck with one coil.
Thank you. Kurt

Ok I been doing a lot of research and made up my mine on for the Garrette LS detector.
I haven't found to many negatives with this unit and now it's time to find a dealer that is a square shooter.
I would just as soon keep it in the lower states. Who have you dealt with that you would go back to??
Also I been in contact with Chris and I will get one of his coils for the 3500 for use in shallow water also when I get to his neighborhood this winter.

Hi Kurt, I can't recommend Steve at AK Mining highly enough on this purchase of the Infinium... I also purchased my GPX-4500 from him. I don't think Chris sells Infinium so hopefully recommending another dealer won't be taboo but Steve has a FANTASTIC Infinium page on his site, his prices are excellent on the detector and accessories and he was super helpful on the phone for over an hour telling me the pros and cons as I was torn between bringing a green monster (Garrett colors) into a Minelab home. Steve is not in the lower states, he's in Alaska but he is well known among all of us and both the 4500 and the Infinium both arrived to my Washington State address within a week in great shape. He also owns a "fly in and detect" gold mine up in Alaska that several of the board members have been to.

Note: Mine has arrived, it actually arrived shortly after I made that post. I've not used it due to some drama at work that's kept my head wrapped around a pole but I hope to get out soon with it.

Give Steve a call, you won't regret the experience I'm sure.

Thank you Jennifer for responding. Looks like you are the only one ordering a detector on line mellow.gif
I contacted Chris and he said that he does not carry the Garrette detectors.
I got some things when I was in Alaska this summer from Steve. I would just as soon order from down below in case I need to return it for some reason.
