Metal Detecting for Gold & Relics in Australia – NEW!
Fourth Edition

I am excited to announce that Arizona Outback will be serving as the exclusive North American distributor for an incredible new book that was recently released. Doug Stone, a renowned prospector and author, has put together what can only be described as the compendium of Australian goldfields. I first met Doug back in 1998 while in the Northern Territory with my father. The three of us became fast friends and have been keeping in touch ever since. Doug’s newest book, which represents nearly 30 years worth of field work, is the absolute complete guide for anyone interested in metal detecting the Australian Outback. It is hard bound, full color, and actually resembles a college text. I own hundreds of books on gold mining, but this title is definitely one of the gems of my collection. It is a large book, measuring 11” x 8.5”, and weighs in at 4 pounds! Each book is packaged in a custom box to prevent damage to the pages and binding. It is wealth of knowledge and covers: the Development of Modern Metal Detector, Detector Operation Technique, Choosing a Metal Detector, Prospecting Tools/Gear/Safety, Where to Prospect with Metal Detectors, Gold Nugget Locations, Maps, Color Photos, and More! smile.gif Below is some information taken from an article about the book which was featured in the June 2009 issue of Australian Gold, Gem & Treasure Magazine:

“In 2007 after ten years of conducting gold tours I decided to sell the business and concentrate once again on writing and publishing. My field books were bursting with detailed mud-maps and notations. Being constantly on the road for 10 years enabled me to gain a unique knowledge of Australia’s goldfields geology. The constant quest for nuggets and the research coupled with field experience honed my powers of observation to be able to predict where we could find gold. The challenge was now to condense all this information into the fourth edition of ‘Metal Detecting for Gold & Relics.’ Myself along with a graphic designer and publisher, spearheaded the task and began the tedious work of drafting and designing what we were sure would become one of the most comprehensive books describing Australia’s alluvial gold deposits. The book includes more than 200 maps covering all mainland states as well as graphic descriptions and color photographs of Australia’s gold country...”

I can vouch for the immense wealth of information contained in Doug Stone's new book, it even has a few mentions and photos of some US forum regulars (Chris and his father Steve included). Chris I sincerely hope you can make this book available to all Minelab dealers in the US as it well and truly deserves the opportunity be made available to anyone interested in the great Aussie Outback.

I got a chance to see a copy of this book earlier this summer and its just beautiful. Doug has really put in a lot of time and research to produce a wonderful color book on the places where gold has been found in Australia. There are many, many maps and great color photos. I have to say I was very impressed by it.

Because ownership and lease situations change, the prospector traveling to these places would still need to determine the most current status of the land, and obtain any necessary permissions. However, Doug has also marked a number of places that are set aside and open to prospectors. For anyone looking to learn more about where gold has been mined in OZ, this book is a great resource and its well worth the price.

Hey Chris;
Finally, I was wondering when you would advertise this fine addition to Doug Stone's body of work.

He very generously sent me a complimentary copy. I was very impressed with the quality of the binding and photos. The contents are an excellent resource for any one wanting an overview of Oz Goldfields...reading through the book and seeing the photos sent me back in time and space to wonderful and wonderous OZ!!!

I have bought many books and videos on various subjects...I would have bought this one if Doug had not given a copy to me...Every club should buy one to share with their members.

One way or another I will be returning to Australia next year...
