Hi All,

Obtained an old FT16000 a couple of weeks ago. An oldie but a goodie.
I was also able to get some other accessories for it. One of them being a Nugget Finder "Mono Mode" external switch.
Nobody seems to know exactly what it does. One opinion from a very seasoned nugget hunter was that it switched the DD coil to mono (cut it in half) to help pinpoint or go deeper in less mineralized soil. I burned up the net and came up empty.

I was hoping "Team Nugget Finder" might be able to shed some light on the subject or perhaps someone has used one in the past and could enlighten me as to it's use.

Many thanks!

Dean.
That is right. A double D coil are two iron cores wound with copper wire what it is doing is cutting one halve of the coil off and just using one side.

Dean. I had aan XT 16000 but had no idea there was such an accessory for it. Of course all the Minelab PIs since the SD 2200 has this switch. That should make the XT16000 more responsive to tiny nuggets.----Bob

Thanks for the input guys!

Montana- I had no idea that this could be done with a VLF.

If that is truely what this thing does it would stand to reason that it would make pinpointing easier and increase sensitivity. Theorhetically, should it also increase depth?

Also, wouldn't be best to use this with a large DD coil as opposed to say a 6" coil? In that, when a 6" DD is in "mono mode" only 3" would be in use.

It will be fun to play around with. wink.gif

Dean . Theoreticly it should reduce overall depth, but if it won't pick up a tiny nugget in DD mode at any depth , but will in mono mode at 1" , then you have in effect increased depth. I seem to remember that Minelab briefly had another coil for that model . Maybe a mono?---Bob
